MLFR 401 Paris As Cultural Icon

This course will examine selected works of fiction, poetry, films, paintings, photographs and other cultural artifacts which reflect the status of Paris as the capital of French culture. The class will study the links between the city’s artistic status and the transformations operated by Haussmann, Mitterand and other civic leaders.
