Who is a Freshman Applicant?

Students who:

• Have not attended any post-secondary institution after high school graduation are considered freshmen applicants. 
• Have attempted less than 12 credits after high school graduation. 
• Were enrolled in college courses (dual enrolled) while in high school, regardless of the numbers of credits attempted/completed.

When to Apply

Prospective freshmen student can apply starting July 2016 to be reviewed for the Spring or Fall 2017 semesters. Applications are only available online at www.esu.edu/apply.

Application and Review Process

For an admission decision to be made the following must be submitted:

• A complete online application
• A $25 application fee paid online
• Official high school transcript or GED¹ 
• Official College transcript (if applicable) 
• SAT and/or ACT test results²

Academic achievement is the only factor considered in the selection process, through high school transcripts and standardized test results. Competitive applicants will have at least a “B/3.0” average in a solid college preparatory curriculum. It is expected that successful applicants will have at least:

• 4 years of English
• 3 years of Math to include Algebra 1, Geometry, & Algebra II, a math-based science is recommended for seniors
• 3 years of Science: Biology & Chemistry (with labs), one inquiry-based science such as Physics, Environmental Science, or Earth Science
• 3 years of Social Studies Civics, U.S. History, World History, Geography, or Economics

Please note the following:  Decision for admission are conditional until a final high school transcript, verifying all courses and grades along with proof of high school graduation are received in the Office of Admission.

¹ If you decide to apply via a "self-reporting" admission application we will review your application based off your information initially.  You will be required to submit your final official transcript(s) to verify your information is correct as well as confirm your graduation.

² ESU is a SAT/ACT optional school, but you must submit your test scores if you are:  Home schooled, a recruited student athlete or are interested in one of the following programs:  Biology: Pre-Medicine, Pre-Physical Therapy; Computer Science and Computer Security; Mathematics - All concentration; Medical Technology; Pre-Nursing; Physics - Engineering Transfer Program; Speech-Language Pathology 

Notification of Admission

• Applicants will receive communication via the email address provided on the application throughout the admission process.
• Applicants should be sure to keep their address updated with ESU and check their inbox and spam folders often. Any changes should be emailed to undergrads@esu.edu with your full name and ESU issued ID number.
• Applicants can also check their status online at www.esu.edu/appstatus for real-time updates. 
• All applicants are encouraged to continue to submit additional test scores for scholarship consideration. 
• Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in September. A letter and email will be sent for any decision made.
• Applicants applying to our Nursing, Speech-Language Pathology and Computer Science may not be notified until January. This process allows the Office of Admission to review each applicant in comparison with all others and determine the appropriate candidates for these limited enrolled programs.

Admission Presentations, Campus Tours, Open House Programs

Admission presentations and campus tours are available to prospective students and their families throughout  the year, Monday - Friday and select Saturday dates. Pre-registration is required and can be completed at www.esu.edu/visit
